Cayman is a duty-free
port, offering visitors a good selection of traditional duty free items
such as watches, china and crystal, perfumes and fine jewelry in George
Town shops. Visitors will find prices on perfume, watches and select
luxury items may be as much as 30% cheaper. In The Shops of George Town,
visitors will find the main duty-free shopping area, offering more than
60 shops and restaurants. Stores are closed on Sunday downtown. A large
new enclosed car park has greatly increased parking space in George
Town's Picadilly Car Park, next to Hobbies & Books on Elgin Ave.
A growing interest
in developing local arts and crafts has led to the opening of seven
art and craft galleries on Grand Cayman, such as Pure Art (on S. Church
St. and the Hyatt Regency), Kennedy Gallery/ Cayman Fine Art in Westshore
and Grannie Mae's Sealed Art on N. Church St. and two small ones on
Cayman Brac (Galleria Marianne and Simone's Art in Spot Bay) featuring
local and Caribbean art. Cathy Church's Underwater Photo Center and
Gallery (Sunset House and Coconut Place/ Tropic Centre) offers both
underwater photography services and an excellent selection of underwater
photos and prints framed as art pieces.
